Rafting the Penobscot!

Ultimate Maine just checked in after two adventurous days on the river!

The group put in on the Penobscot River yesterday and hit two Class V rapids right away! The whole left side of the boat was dumped out by the thrilling ride! (sorry Liza, Jamie and Vito!).

After heading down some Class IV rapids and swimming a long section of Class III's, the group settled down for their well earned luxury meal of steak and potatoes!

Today the group found themselves rafting down a 13 foot waterfall! And they loved it so much... they carried their raft back to the top 3 more times! Crazy kids...

All in all... a pretty phenomenal, blood pumping activity! And they're headed to bed early tonight as their Katahdin day starts at 4am tomorrow!

Climb Away!

Ultimate Maine just finished two fantastic days of rock climbing! Day 1 was spent at Parks Pond tackling climbing as difficult at 5.8 and 5.9!

On day 2, Jordan set up at the legendary Eagle Bluff with 5.5's, 5.7's and 5.8's!

The group was incredibly enthusiastic about their climbing skills and took on learning the climbing knots and even belaying!

The gang is resting their sore muscles today as they travel North for a multi-day whitewater rafting adventure!

Ultimate Maine Saves the Planet!

The Ultimate Maine crew just finished their service days in Acadia National Park! And boy is that place looking good!

The kids had two full days of trail maintenance, raking rain water routes and ceasing the reproduction of the invasive LIPID plant! After a competition to see who could collect the most seedlings... the winner had collected 68.5 pounds! Way to go team!

Riding the high from their good deeds, the crew celebrated at a bonfire with the Rangers and are headed out today to their first rock climbing location! Pics to follow!

Time for Whitewater...

Wow.
Ultimate Maine had a seriously impressive day of learning the whitewater ropes today! As part of a 3 day series of whitewater kayaking, the group headed to Lake Millinocket for some training! After gearing up (wetsuits, lifejackets, windbreakers, booties, helmets, paddles and boats!), the group learned to wet exit first thing! They were thrilled with the rush of being upside down in the water!

After lunch, more lessons on paddle strokes, drills on boat stability and they've all got their eskimo rescue down! It was a long and chilly end to the day, but everyone is excited to hit the rapids tomorrow with new-found expertise!

21 Miles of EPIC Trail!

Breaking News: The Ultimate Maine crew is OUT of the woods! And they've never looked better!

With smiles on their faces, and 21 miles of hiking under their boots, the Ultimate Maine crew hiked back into the Wild River Campground this afternoon united and satisfied! The newly bonded group visited Spruce Brook Shelter, Perkin's Notch, SUNRISE hiked Carter Dome and looped back around to stay at the beautiful, waterfall adjacent Blue Brook Shelter.

Their week was full of trail songs, games, a bear sighting and even a moose earlier today!

I'm headed back to the campfire to hear more on their adventures, but rest assured... they are safe, happy and will be calling home tomorrow as they journey to their next destination: Millinocket and White Water Kayaking!

Maine-ly Backpacking!

first group pic at recompense campground!

The Ultimate Maine crew heads out onto the Wild River Trail today! For the next 4 nights they will be deep in the wild, splashing through babbling brooks, carrying everything they need in their packs, having hilarious trail conversation and learning what it means to appreciate the wilderness without leaving an impact!

The crew was in terrific spirits last night at the Wild River Campground. Playing games, setting up their hammocks/unloading in their gigantic Lean-to and preparing for their final front-country meal for the rest of the week.

Be assured that attitudes are invested in a fun and energetic trip and personalities are meshing nicely. We'll be sure to post about their adventures as soon as they are back to civilization!
